Abuja, Nigeria — Women in Government Nigeria (WIG.ng) successfully hosted its impactful “Earn, Save and Invest” seminar, bringing together women—particularly those in the civil service—to strengthen their financial literacy and economic resilience in today’s challenging financial climate.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Nwatam Papka, Founder of Women in Government Nigeria, emphasized the urgency of financial education amid rising economic pressures.
“The current financial climate has made it increasingly difficult for many women to earn a living and sustain what they have. This initiative is about equipping women with the knowledge and tools to make informed financial decisions and manage their resources effectively,” Ms. Papka said.
The seminar focused on practical financial strategies, including budgeting, saving, and investing, designed to help participants take control of their financial futures. A key highlight was the introduction of the 50-30-20 budgeting framework, a simple yet powerful tool for managing income across needs, wants, and savings.
Participants described the experience as both enlightening and empowering.
“I learned practical ways to manage money, including the 50%, 30%, and 20% rule,” said an attendee.
Beyond financial education, the event reinforced WIG.ng’s mission to build a strong, supportive network of women committed to growth and collaboration.
“We are not just gathering women; we are building a community that supports each other in every area of life,” Ms. Papka added. “Seeing those ‘light bulb moments’—when participants truly connect with financial concepts—is what makes this initiative meaningful.”
