WIG NG Letters

Your Consideration Thermometer.

Dear WIG.ng!!!

How considerate do you assume you are? I don’t think you should respond to that question so quickly. Rather, do a poll. Ask unbiased family, friends and colleagues to mirror your consideration level to you, so as to give you a good picture of where you are, and if necessary, where you need to begin working on yourself.

I was recently on a work trip which required a flight connection from another destination. While the first leg was a breeze, smooth and easy, the second was literally a nightmare, and I am not exaggerating. We were travelling at an odd hour, so usually you would expect that people would want to catch some sleep. Unfortunately, this was not the case. This cluster of persons travelling together spoke rather loudly, without any due consideration for anyone who was not a part of their group.  Persons seated at the front of the plane held long conversations with others who were seated behind, allowing their loud inconsiderate voices to travel all those miles.

I really could not figure out why they did not consider the outsiders even for a split second. What do people need to be aware of others around them? Is it a cultural thing? Is it a behavioural thing? I have a lot of questions, because an understanding of this would assist one in approaching anyone who is not gauging or using their consideration thermometer, to draw them to this awareness.

What does it have to do with WIG.ng you may wonder? Truth be told, being considerate is an all-round thing, it has every inch to do with us all, at all times. If you are one who is not considerate at home or with strangers, it is very likely you forget to carry this essential character to work. You probably are not considerate to the shared space, or the urgency of your work and how it affects over 200 million people you are called to serve.

We all have some unlearning and learning to do in life. Why don’t we focus on that which makes us better people? Let us learn to be considerate!

Happy learning..
