Atomic Habits by James Clear

Self-help and self-improvement can be a bit of a hamster wheel. That’s to say, it’s easy to get trapped in the idea of improving your life without doing it because we’re too busy reading “How to” books.

In Atomic Habits, James Clear argues that big goals shouldn’t be your main focus in life. Instead, you should be utilizing frequent, repetitive actions and systems to help develop habits that’s stick. While it’s worth reading cover-to-cover, below are some top takeaways:
- Beware of the motion vs. action trap. When you’re in motion, you’re planning, strategizing and learning. While all good, they don’t produce results, action does. That’s the only type of behaviour that will deliver an outcome.
- Identify the change first, the rest will follow. If you want to create real change, focus first on who you want to become instead of things like what you want to do and how you want to accomplish it.
